Quilted Table Cloth!

I was cleaning out the laundry room and found a table cloth I made and completely forgot about! How fun is that! I think I will clean out the hall closet next! It was a really easy one and didn't take that long to make. I love the ones that look like a giant block. These are nice and easy and we all can use nice and easy once in a while!

Great Movie to See!

I loved this movie. It really is one everyone should go to see. And its not a "Chick Flick". It just a fun heart warming movie you really will enjoy. I wanted to sit Thu it twice.
I loved her relationship with her husband too. I think I am going to go get her autobiography.
After watching the movie the book should be even better!

As you are surfing thru "Blogland" I know you must have come up on a site telling you about this book that came out the beginning of the month. Well....I ran out and bought it! And I love it. Not only is it done beautifully but it is full of alot of helpful information. Tara Frey is the author and has a blog of her own...... http://bellapink.typepad.com/ Her blog is worth surfing to! I really liked seeing some of the other blogger sites and seeing some of my favorites in the book. But if you are new to blogging this book is really helpful. And its just fun to read!

What Can I take to the Pot Luck?

I hate Pot Lucks they put so much pressure on you! You have to take something everyone will love because you don't want to be the one leaving with a full plate of what ever you made! SO this becomes a major event for me...Last potluck my Niece brought he same dish I did....and I thought mine was so different no one would be bringing it. Boy was I wrong! And hers was in a beautiful dish....oh the pressure.... Don't you just hate those women who just run home after work with hardly any prep time and make something so wonderful she is having to email all of us the recipe later because it was to die for! This time I am going for the "Ramen Noodle Salad" or should I ..... oh well here is the recipe and I hope everyone asks for it! :)

Ramen Noodle Salad
1/2 head green cabbage, chopped
1/2 carrot, shredded
4 green onions, chopped
1 package ramen noodles (Oriental flavor)
2 Tablespoons slivered almonds, sunflower seeds, or sesame seeds

Dressing (whisk or shake together):
1/2 cup salad oil
3 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Flavor packet from ramen noodles

1. Toast the nuts or seeds in a warm oven for 6-8 minutes, watching carefully to prevent over-toasting. Cool.
2. Combine cabbage, carrots and onions.
Break up noodles and add to vegetables.
Shortly before serving, add nuts or seeds and the mixed dressing; toss well.

This was really fun! Thanks again MaryJane! I did end up making a double batch after I tried it. I washed my husband's work clothes and they came so clean. It even got stuff out of his clothes that "All" never has. And it smells wonderful!
Here is my finished jars. Well a few of them ....after all I did do a double batch! And I love making labels for everything so look at the labels too! I always get my clip art for labels and other things from http://www.pccrafter.com/index.aspx. I love that site.

Get Up and Go Breakfast Cookies

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 tablespoon orange zest
1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup wheat and barley nugget cereal (ex: Grapenuts )

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, orange juice concentrate, and orange zest. Combine the flour and baking powder; mix into the fluffy mixture until blended. Stir in cereal. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are golden. Remove from cookie sheet for cooling.

Sewing Room fun!

I was trying to decided what to post next and decided that showing where I sew would be fun...If you read my other blog then I am sorry to show you a repeat but the recipe won't be!

This is the room my husband built! I love spending time in my sewing room. I think its my favorite room in my house.
I love my rocker but my husband most sits there when he's (sshhhhhshhhh)
stitching. Remember this is a big secret!

I took the pictures during the time my machine was broken so you don't see my new machine in these.

Mt table is made from an old sewing machine base as well as this cupboard. And yes my husband did those too.

When I get to spend the day quilt I don't want to cook so I do something easy. Most of the time I use my crock pot but sometimes I like to make something that just sounds yummy! This recipe is just that...Yummy!

French Lasagna

4 cups whole milk

1 clove garlic, peeled and lightly crushed

4 large eggs, beaten together

5 stale croissants, halved lengthwise (like sandwiches)

5 thin slices ham

1 4-ounce ball fresh mozzarella, cut into 5 slices

8 ounces grated cheddar.

In a medium saucepan, combine milk and garlic, and place over high heat until almost at boiling point. Remove from heat and allow to rest for 15 to 20 minutes. Discard garlic, and drizzle eggs into milk while whisking vigorously. Set aside.Place bottoms of croissants into a baking dish large enough to hold them snugly in a single layer. On each croissant half, arrange a slice of ham and a slice of mozzarella. Top with remaining croissant halves. Sprinkle about 2/3 of cheddar on croissants, and pour milk mixture over everything. Press croissants down with a fork so they are almost covered by milk, repeating once or twice until tops absorb some of liquid. Set aside for 20 minutes; meanwhile, heat oven to 325°F. Sprinkle remaining cheddar over croissants. Bake until puffy, golden and set, about 30 minutes. Serve immediately.

Shrimp and Tasso Pasta

1/2 (16 ounce) package uncooked rotini pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup tasso ham, cut into matchsticks
2 tablespoons minced garlic
3/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/4 cup chopped celery
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning blend (such as Tony Chachere's®)
1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (such as Tabasco®)
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 pound peeled crawfish tails
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Bring a large pot of lightly-salted water to a rolling boil. Stir the rotini into the boiling water. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, about 8 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink.
Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the tasso, and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic, onion, green pepper, green onion, and celery. Cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the basil, thyme, Cajun seasoning, and hot sauce; cook 1 minute.
Pour in the cream, and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in the Parmesan cheese. Cook and stir until the sauce begins to thicken slightly, about 3 minutes. Add the crawfish tails, and cook until hot, then toss with the rotini pasta. Sprinkle with parsley to serve.

Vintage Trailer!

I am so excited we just got a Vintage Trailer!

It is a cute little 1947 Kit Companion.I was so excited we found it. There is some (my husband says alot) of work to do to fix it up. But it has so much potential ! If you want to see it you can hop over to www.heirloominn.blogspot.com .

Heirloom Inn is what we named it, Because they all need names. I got online and looked at a bunch of the ones people have fixed up and there sure some darling ones. So I am sure it is going to be so fun to do. Right after we got home from picking it up I ran right out and got the cutest red pans, red teapot, glasses and I ordered the plates online. We are going to be doing it in red, white and black. You can see the beginning to end on the blog listed above. Well, I don't think I can wait for the faries with this project so I will just keep believing,

Having Fun with my New Bernina!

I am loving my new Bernina! It has the cutest design stitches I started stitching all around my dish towels. I still crochet the bottom edge and I think it really makes it look more finished! And it is so nice to use the basket stitch again! I have a few gifts to finish and I will show you how I packaged them to give them away!
Here is 2 great yummy summer recipes:

Easy Strawberry Lemonade

1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
4-1/2 cups water
1 (10 ounce) package frozen strawberries, partially thawed

In a large pitcher, mix together lemonade concentrate and water.
Stir in strawberries.

Banana Bonkers

3 bananas
3 cups fresh grapefruit juice
2 cups lemon sherbet
1 cup crushed ice

Puree bananas in a blender or food processor. In a gallon pitcher combine pureed bananas, grapefruit juice, lemon sherbet and crushed ice. Stir and serve.

Now grab your favorite cooking or quilt book, sit down have a sip of the wonderful drink you made, And wait they will come!

FLowers and Sewing!

It has been so nice out side that I think everything I have made has had to do with flowers lately. I love making these pin cushions and they make a fun gift too. I just gave one of these away and I put it in a large clear corsage box and tied a big ribbon around the box. I don't have to many girlfriends that sew so I love making sewing gifts for the ones that do. I also seem to find all kinds of things to do while I wait for the "Cleaning Faries". Just think of all the things I could do if I decided to wait for the "Cooking Faries"! Wow what and idea!

Here a great recipe that I made this morning. They were gone almost as fast as I made them.

Cheese Biscuits

2 ½ cups Bisquick baking mix

¾ cup cold whole milk

4 tablespoons cold butter (1/2 stick)

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

1 heaping cup grated cheddar cheese

Bush on Top:

2 tablespoons butter, melted

¼ teaspoon dried parsley flakes

½ teaspoon garlic powder

pinch salt

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

2. Combine Bisquick with cold butter in a medium bowl using a pastry cutter or a large fork. You don't want to mix too thoroughly. There should be small chunks of butter in there that are about the size of peas. Add cheddar cheese, milk, and ¼ teaspoon garlic. Mix by hand until combined, but don't over mix.

3. Drop approximately ¼-cup portions of the dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet using an ice cream scoop.

4. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits begin to turn light brown.

5. When you take the biscuits out of the oven, melt 2 tablespoons butter is a small bowl in your microwave. Stir in ½ teaspoon garlic powder and the dried parsley flakes. Use a brush to spread this garlic butter over the tops of all the biscuits. Use up all of the butter.

Makes one dozen biscuits.

A Done Dish Towel!

This is how I decided to give away this towel for club. I found the green watering can at Walmart and I couldn't believe how great it matched! I tie my dish towels with ribbon I bought from Namemakers.com. My ribbon says Made with Love From Debbie. You can order it to say what ever you want! I love it. I was so glad Lori took pictures since I forgot! At club this month we gave our club a name.... YoYo Mamas! We trade Yoyos every month as well as 5 X 5 squares. We have a blast! Every so often we have another trade and this month was a dish towel and recipe swap. For pictures of all the towels go check out Lori's Blog. We all brought our recipe so everyone went home with a taste. My recipe is below:

Pineapple Cheesecake Bar

Crust:
1 1/3 cups all-purpose bleached flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick softened)
Batter:
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup powdered sugar
1 large egg
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup crushed pineapple or 1 (8-ounce) can, drained
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped macadamia nuts
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine flour, sugar, and butter until mixture is crumbly. Spread evenly into a 13 by 9-inch baking pan with raised sides. Press down until an 1/8 of an inch thick and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
Mix cream cheese and 1 cup powdered sugar until frosting texture. Add egg, sugar, crushed pineapple and vanilla extract, mix thoroughly. Fold 1/4 cup white chocolate chips and 1/4 cup chopped macadamia nuts reserving 1/4 cup of each. Bake for additional 15 to 20 minutes or until batter is set. Remove from oven, melt reserved white chocolate chips and drizzle on top and sprinkle with 1/4 cup reserved chopped macadamia nuts. Let stand for 1 hour and cut into bars.
These are so yummy! They might even tempt the "Cleaning Fairies" to show up!

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope you all had a Happy Mother's Day! Mine was wonderful.

My Bernina died a few weeks ago and so I put a new one on layaway. I thought it would be in layaway forever! But as a Great Surprise My Husband called all over (because he didn't know what kind or where) to find my layaway. He found it and went and got it out of layaway for Mother's Day! And no I won't give him away! He does have a single brother! I had to start sewing right away! I sewed a check pattern all the way around the dish towel And then started appliqueing. It was so nice! Isn't my machine BEAUTIFUL!

I love gadgets!

And this light hooks right on the side of your machine and gives you more light while sewing. I love it! You can adjust it where you want it to go. You can get this at the Bernina stores!

I got this recipe from http://rachaelsfavoriterecipes.blogspot.com/and thought it would a great easy gift idea. You could tie a dish towel to the top of a package Oreos with a big bow and the recipe for the following recipe:

COOKIES N' CREAM COOKIES
1- 1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 tbs vanilla
3 eggs
1 small pkg. vanilla instant pudding
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
20 Oreos, broken into pieces
Cream butter and sugars. Add vanilla and eggs, mix well. Add dry pudding and mix well. Add dry ingredients and beat until combined (batter will be stiff). Stir in Oreos. Scoop onto cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 9-12 minutes.

Growing Ideas for Summer.

I needed a gift and and with summer trying to come in I thought this would be a fun one. I wanted to applique it by hand so I ironed pellon to the back to help stabilize it. This works Great! I appliqued the watering can on first and then stitched a running stitch around the edges.

Then the leaves and flower.

The center is a yoyo with a button sewn on top.

Crochet the bottom with a matching crochet thread.

I always gather the top in my hand and tie it with raffia. I just haven't figured out what to put with it....a wooden spoon, garden shovel, or......I just don't know.

Any ideas?

Here's a quick easy recipe to help keep you out of the kitchen and enjoy the nice weather!

Crockpot Lemonade Chicken
4 pieces chicken (even with bone in if you want!)
6 oz. can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
2 Tbs. brown sugar
3 Tbs. ketchup
1 Tbs. vinegar
2 Tbs. cornstarch (for thickening the sauce when done)
2 Tbs. water
Arrange chicken in crockpot. Combine lemonade, brown sugar, ketchup and vinegar. Pour over chicken and cover. Cook on high 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
Recipe yields 4 servings.

I Love Gingerbread Boys!

Don't you just love ginerbread boys! They are so cute and round! These towels are ones I did for my cookbook. They are patterns that are included in the cookbook along with a few others. Think Sunshine and Flowers!

I decided this week to do one you could look at and easily make yourself. This is so easy you can't go wrong not matter what you come up with. The trick on this one is the fabric. The fabric is what makes an easy pattern pop! I would say mostly if you stick to fabrics from the same line it works out best. But if you are good with fabrics you don't need to follow that rule. Alot of times with dish towels the simplier the better. And if you find a good simple pattern I always like to make it bigger.

Now that you have your easy dish towel done....here's and easy drink mix to make ahead or to tuck in with your dish towel when you give it as a gift.

Hot Spiced Orange Drink Mix

1 (10 oz) jar of Tang

2 oz Lemonade mix (Country time)

2 C Sugar

2 tsp Cinnamon

1 tsp Cloves

Mix well and divide into small jars or ziploc bags.
Instructions to make: Add 2 heaping teaspoons to one cup boiling water.

My neighbor is washing her windows and scrubbing and mopping her floors
but my house is all Topsy-turvy and dust's behind all the doors.
My neighbor, she keeps her house spotless and she goes all day at a trot,
but no-one will know in a fortnight if she swept today or not.
The task I'm doing is enticing,(my poor neighbor is worn like a rag)I am making a quilt out of pieces I've saved in a pretty chintz bag.
Oh, and this quilt, I know my descendants will exhibit with pride in their hearts,
"It is lovely, my grandmother made it,such an example of patience and art.
"But will her grandchildren remember all her struggles with dirt and decay?
They will not - they'll wish she had made them a quilt like I'm making today.

Basket full of poises!

This dish towel is done on the corner. After I got it done I thought this would be a great pattern for on a table cloth. wouldn't that be fun on each corner. Maybe next time while I am waiting for those "No Show Fairies". Oh I take that back, I do believe they will show!
I just love doing dish towels, they get done fast and i feel a great sense of accomplishment. And I get a kick out of finding something to do with yoyo's. I am working on a table cloth made out of 30's print. But I think it will be a while before I am done. I love those yoyo makers they sure help!

This towel could be tucked into a basket full of muffins (with the corner hanging out) as a gift to a sick friend. Here's a great muffin recipe.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 cup fresh blueberries
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners.
Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill the cup. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture.
To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork, and sprinkle over muffins before baking.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done.

Happy as a Lamb!

With Easter coming I couldn't resist doing a lamb dish towel. Wouldn't this be cute tucked in a basket for your mom or a friend. And it is so easy to make! I bought the lamb figure a while ago at a Quilt shop and isn't he the best inspiration. I just love making dish towels. And lambs are always so cute. The flowers are just buttons and the fabric on this one is done with Heat n Bond. So easy. I think it is still helping pushing spring in the door. The snow didn't kill off my tulips and even more are blooming today. They are working so hard at bringing in spring maybe my next dish towel will have tulips....who knows.

This would be a great gift with the following loaf of bread.

Banana Chocolate Chip Tea Bread

This is so good warmed up for breakfast with a cup of cold milk or a cup of your favorite tea.
This tea bread is also a great snack or dessert.

1 1/2 cups sifted flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/2 cup sour cream or 1/4 cup buttermilk

1 cup ripe bananas, mashed (about 3 medium sized bananas)

Several handfuls of semi-sweet chocolate morsels, about 2 cups (3-5 handfuls depending on how chocolaty you like it!)

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. Combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Add sour cream or buttermilk, and blend together with an electric mixer (or by hand) for 1-1 1/2 minutes. Add mashed bananas to the mixture and then add flour mixture. Mix thoroughly. Add several handfuls of the chocolate morsels and mix in gently for about 60 seconds. Fill 2 greased and floured loaf pans about 1/2 to 2/3 full.

Bake 30-35 minutes.

How lucky, this recipe makes 2 loaves. 1 or a friend and 1 for you!

Think Spring!

I wanted to make something Fun and Bright to try to push in spring just a little faster! I have pretty yellow tulips that have bloomed in the front flower bed...but then it snowed on them! I couldn't believe it! So I decide to make something fun! I have a yellow chair in my kitchen for the grand kids to sit on and its right under a window so I made this dish towel to hang over the back. I love to combine stitching and applique together. I did the cheeks and bottom of feet with a little paint and fabric medium. And to tell the truth my husband did the stitching and I did the applique and crocheting. The bottom picture is a closer picture so you can see better. I hand appliqued this (only because my sewing machine is broken) but you could easly do this with Heat n Bond and blanket stitch the edges. I used a small crochet hook and I just push it through the bottom edge. I have done this for years and works fine. No holes or ripping. I think its because its like cheese cloth. And the hook just pushes thru.

Spiced Honey Butter

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened to room temperature
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Serve with biscuits, bread or toast. Makes about 3/4 cup.
